If a podcaster speaks into a microphone and no one’s around to hear it… did they even podcast?

In most cases, this cliched phrase is a philosophical thought experiment. But in the podcasting world, the answer is simply: “no.”

Listeners are essential to every podcast. Content creators need a reliable way to get their show in front of their target audience—which is why platforms like Podchaser are so useful.

Podchaser is more than a podcast directory; it’s a social network that can help you (and your existing fans) promote your show to others who have similar interests. In this post, we’ll show you how to submit your podcast on Podchaser and why the platform can help you expand your show’s reach.

What is Podchaser?

Podchaser is one of the largest podcast databases available. In fact, it’s often referred to as the “IMDb of podcasts,” because just like the Internet Movie Database, it’s a crowdsourced directory. Its roughly 500,000+ monthly active users contribute to the database through ratings, reviews, and even curated playlists to help each other find shows they might enjoy.

Like any other podcast directory, Podchaser lets users find and listen to podcasts. But the database also includes things like:

  • A profile page for each podcast
  • Podcast ratings and reviews
  • Creator profiles for podcast hosts and guests
  • Curated podcast lists
  • User activity feeds with interaction between podcasters, brands, and listeners

How is Podchaser different from other podcast directories?

Podcast directories are listening apps that aggregate episodes from podcasts’ RSS feeds. They’re a place for listeners to search for, discover, subscribe to, and listen to podcasts.

There are many podcast directories out there—including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts—but Podchaser is slightly different from the rest. While most podcast directories focus on being listening apps (places for users to find and listen to podcasts), Podchaser branches out even further into the social media space.

Podchaser lets users find friends and subscribe to other users’ curated playlists. Podcasters can also create their own creator profiles, which means fans easily find and stay up-to-date on their favorite creators. Aside from functioning as a standard podcast listening app, Podchaser is also essentially a social network for podcasts and creators.

How does Podchaser work?

Podchaser is like a social media network for podcasters and podcast listeners. Users can discover, listen to, rate, and follow new shows. Creators can keep tabs on how their show is being received by their audience, network with others—and interact with commenters.

Podchaser includes the following features:

  • Creator profiles — Listeners can follow their favorite podcasters to learn more about hosts, get updates about new content, and receive notifications about new guest credits.
  • Podcast pages — Each podcast, no matter where it’s hosted, should have its own unique page on Podchaser. Users can easily find information about (and even buy merch from) their favorite podcasts from Podchaser’s extensive database.
  • Ratings and reviews — Users can leave reviews through Podchaser for both the community and creators to see. They can even follow each other to see how their friends’ favorite podcasts stack up.
  • Curated lists — Users can easily create lists of their favorite podcasts or episodes and share them with friends (or make them discoverable by other users).

Podchaser podcast submission requirements

There are no specific submission requirements to get your show on Podchaser. But if you plan to submit your show to as many directories as possible, it’s a good idea to meet the generally accepted standards.

If you’re ready to submit your podcast, make sure it meets the following descriptions:

  • The cover art is in a square (at least 1400 x 1400 pixels) JPG or PNG format
  • At least one episode is present on your RSS feed
  • The podcast has a unique file name with the required tags

How do I submit my podcast on Podchaser?

Step 1: Create an account

First, navigate to the Podchaser homepage and click Register. Use your email address or a social profile to create an account.

Customize your profile by adding an image, name, username, and password.

Remember that Podchaser is more of a social network than other podcast directories, so be mindful about choosing your profile picture and username. Your audience and fellow podcasters will see them every time they interact with you on this platform.

If your podcast already exists, you should be able to search for it and claim it on this step (see Step 3). If it doesn’t appear when you search it, no worries! Move on to step two.

Step 2: Add your podcast

Once you’ve created your account, click your profile picture in the top right corner and click + Add a Podcast.

Then, paste your RSS feed into the dialogue box on the next screen.  Click Submit Podcast when you’re ready.

Step 3: Claim your podcast

Getting your podcast listed in Podchaser’s database is only part of the goal. Odds are good that if it’s a public podcast, it was already listed on Podchaser long before you created your own account.

You’ll also want to claim your podcast, which will give you access to Podchaser’s management and promotional tools. You’ll be able to:

  • Track your show’s metrics
  • Monitor and reply to reviews
  • Add links and merch to your page
  • Network with listeners and potential sponsors

To claim your podcast, simply log into your account and navigate to your podcast page. Click Claim this Podcast on the bottom of the right column. Alternatively, you can visit Podchaser’s claim a podcast page.

Next, confirm the action with either your email or a token.

  • To claim via email: Select “Verify via email” from the dropdown menu. Click “Send email code,” and then check your email inbox for a verification message.
  • To claim via feed token: Select “Verify via feed” from the dropdown menu. Select the red button to copy the claim token. Paste that token into the text field of an episode description on your hosting platform. Go back to Podchaser’s claim page and click “Verify token.” Once Podchaser confirms the verification, you can delete the claim token from your hosting platform.
