With the brand new Continuity Camera feature for iPhone and macOS Ventura, you can get high-quality video right from your mobile device.
But how should you mount it? Can you mount it to your laptop lid, use a tripod, or something else? We're going to go over three options for using your iPhone with Continuity Camera, and easily mounting it in all of those situations.
Belkin’s iPhone MagSafe Webcam Mount
A brand new option (and one of the most convenient) is Belkin’s iPhone MagSafe webcam mount.
If you have an iPhone 12 or newer, this mount will actually magnetically connect to the back of your iPhone with or without a case. It has a lever that will pop out, so it can sit on your laptop lid. You can also pull out a metal ring from the mount to hold it with your finger or mount it on a desk.
Using Belkin’s MagSafe Mount is convenient and requires no cables or wires. It’s also highly portable. Similar to your built-in laptop camera, this might display at a low angle. We would recommend propping up your laptop with some books or a box. This way, you have a much better eye-level view with your iPhone camera using the Belkin MagSafe Mount.
Again, if you flip out the metal ring you can use it as an iPhone stand. The Belkin MagSafe Mount is $30, which might seem a little pricey, especially with some options you can find on Amazon. However, it attaches very securely to the back of the iPhone and is very convenient when traveling.
Joby iPhone Tripod
Another option you would have is using a desktop tripod with a clip that holds an iPhone.
The benefit to this is that you get more flexibility. You can adjust the angle and you won't have to prop up your laptop. If you have a small desk, it could be cumbersome and if you're traveling, you will have to carry it.
The Joby iPhone Tripod is currently $20 on Amazon.
Klearlook Mount
If you’re looking to attach your iPhone to a desktop monitor, we recommend the Klearlook Mount. It attaches to the top of your monitor, and hangs down just into the screen for perfect eye-level.
We recommend this to anyone using a desktop to record video with Continuity Camera. It's only $12 on Amazon. Very flexible. You can hang below the monitor or above and should fit most mobile devices.
