Mic test best practices

  • We recommend that you sit in a quiet place for the microphone test. Rooms with fewer windows result in better audio quality due to fewer disturbances from external noise sources.
  • It’s best to hold the microphone 6-12 inches away from your mouth when doing the mic test.
  • If you’d like to listen back to the recorded sound, we recommend using headphones. This results in the clearest sound.

Mic test not working?
Let's troubleshoot

  • Make sure you gave your microphone access to perform the online mic test. If your mic doesn’t have access, navigate to the lock icon that’s placed next to the URL bar. Click on it and give your mic access to perform the test.
  • Make sure your microphone is unblocked. Go to Chrome settings > search for microphone settings > click site settings > in the dropdown menu, select the microphone you want to use for the mic test.
  • Double-check that your browser has permission to access the microphone. If you’re using a macOS system, navigate to System Preferences > Select security & privacy > Search for the microphone tab > Checkmark the box next to Google Chrome to give access.
