Render Rendering

Table of contents:

What is a render or rendering?

Rendering is the process of generating the final output by merging all video and audio elements, effects, transitions, and sound into one single file.

Do you need to render a video?

You have to render a video if you want a polished version that can be played outside your editing software.

How long does it usually take to render a video?

Rendering time depends on factors like the length, resolution, the complexity of effects, and your computer's processing power.

A basic video with minimal effects may only take a few minutes, but longer, high-resolution videos with numerous effects can take hours.

What do you need for video rendering?

A powerful personal computer with:

  • A powerful central processing unit (CPU) (multi-core processors help).
  • A graphic processing unit (GPU)
  • At least 16 GB RAM
  • Sufficient storage space for the rendered files.
  • Video editing software that supports your desired output format.

What is the difference between render and export video?

Export is the final step in post-production, where you save the rendered video in a specific format, after which it’s ready for distribution or viewing.

What format should I render my video in?

Choose the format that fits your needs:

  • MP4 (H.264): Best for online sharing due to its balance of quality and file size.
  • MOV: Often used for high-quality editing and archiving.
  • ProRes: Ideal for professional editing workflows when you need to maintain the highest possible quality.
