What is a layer?

A layer is an individual “level” in an editing project that contains a separate element, like text, images, or video.

What is the purpose of using layers?

Layers separate different elements into their own “levels.” This separation allows editors to independently control and edit each element to create complex visual effects, overlays, and adjustments without changing other parts of the project.

How do I add layers to a video?

Import your media into your editing software to add layers. Drag each clip, image, or audio file onto the timeline. Each file automatically creates a new layer. You can then adjust each layer's properties, such as position, opacity, and duration.

What is multi-layer video editing?

Multi-layer video editing allows editors to work with multiple layers stacked on top of each other and combine elements to create effects like split screens or picture-in-picture.
