What is reverb?

Reverb is an audio effect that mimics the sound reflecting off different surfaces in space, making the audio feel more spacious or distant.

However, reverb is sometimes produced unintentionally and is unwanted.  In such a case, editors must minimize reverb in post-production so that voices sound clear and direct, especially for indoor recordings. Excess reverb can make dialogue sound echoey and unprofessional.

Why does my sound have reverb?

Your sound may have reverb because it’s recorded in a room with hard surfaces where sound waves bounce off walls, ceilings, or floors. This causes the sound to reflect multiple times, creating a sense of space in the audio.

Does reverb mean echo?

Reverb is a collection of reflections that blend with each other, while an echo is a distinct repetition of sound.

Why do people use reverb?

Editors use reverb to create a sense of space and depth. In podcasts, light reverb can make voices sound fuller, but too much can reduce clarity.
